Dress Code/Uniform

Dress Code 2022-2023

 

SHIRTS & DRESSES

  • Collared polo-style or button-down shirt is required.
  • Shirt may be long- or short-sleeved.
  • Appropriate patterns (stripes, plaid, etc.) are permitted.
  • Graphics are not permitted.
  • Shirt must fit appropriately (not purposely over- or undersized).
  • Non-uniform shirt cannot be worn over a uniform shirt.
  • Button-down shirts should be buttoned appropriately.
  • FMMA Spirit Shirt can be worn any day instead of a collared shirt.
  • FMMA Spirit Shirt must be bought directly from FMMA. 
  • Dresses should follow the same guidelines as shirts.

 

JACKETS & OUTERWEAR

  • Hooded jackets are allowed but the hood may NOT be worn up/on the head.
  • Denim jackets are not permitted.
  • Outerwear with writing, inappropriate language, advertisements, or large graphic images are not permitted. (School-appropriate patterns, stripes on sleeves, different colored sleeves, etc. are allowed).
  • A uniform shirt (with the collar visible) must be worn under any jacket, sweater, or sweatshirt. 
  • Jackets cannot be tied around the waist.

 

BOTTOMS

  • All bottoms must be solid-colored (no designs permitted). 
  • No jeans are permitted.
  • No cargo shorts or pants permitted.
  • All pants must be worn at the waist at all times.
  • Pants may not have any rips or tears and must be have a finished edge (no cut or frayed edges). 
  • Shorts, skirts, and dresses must not be excessively tight and must not be too short (admin reserves the right to determine).
  • Tights, leggings, and thermals are not allowed except as worn under skirts. 
  • Slacks must not be tucked into socks or shoes.
  • Jeans, spandex, yoga pants, cargo pants, leggings, pajama bottoms, sweatpants, athletic shorts, and skirts with slits on the side are not permitted.
  • Clothing that exposes body parts or undergarments is prohibited. 

 

SHOES

  • Open-toe or open-heel shoes are not permitted.
  • No Crocs, slides, sandals, or slippers.

 

HEADWEAR/HAIR

  • Hats, sweatbands of any color (terry cloth material), hoods, caps, bandannas, grooming combs, headbands with ears/horns, headgear, or sunglasses may NOT be worn during the school day.
  • Fabric or plastic headbands (1 inch wide) used to hold hair back are permitted.
  • Extreme hairstyles or colors that are disruptive to the learning environment are not permitted. 

 

ACCESSORIES, ETC.

  • Jewelry or clothing that could likely cause injury or be disruptive (such as chains, bracelets, rings, chokers with or without spikes or studs, and wallet chains) are not permitted.
  • Teeth grills are not permitted.
  • Apparel, emblems, insignias, badges, or symbols that promote the use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or other illegal activity are prohibited. 
  • Apparel or symbols which may be gang-related may not be displayed on a student's person or in the student's possession. 
  • Adornments that, in the principal's judgment could cause injury, be a safety risk, or cause a disruption to the school learning environment may not be worn. Examples of prohibited adornments include, but are not limited to hoops or rings attached to the nose, eyebrow, cheeks, or lips.
  • The wearing of hats, caps, headgear (including hoodies), or sunglasses, except in conjunction with designated school-approved uniforms or at authorized athletic practices or activities is prohibited. There may be certain exceptions for medical conditions and physical education classes held outside. The principal will determine these exceptions. 
  • No writing, tattoos, or body stickers on face, arms, hands, or legs. 
  • Fanny packs, mini backpacks, and purses are permitted but are not to be worn in the classroom. All personal belongings will have a designated secured area in each classroom.

2018-2019 DRESS CODE POLICY

Dress code policy may change at the discretion of the principal.


Apparel, emblems, insignias, graphics, or symbols that promote the use of illegal activity or that may cause a disruption to the educational environment as determined by the principal are prohibited. 
No inappropriate language or advertisements will be permitted on any clothing.


SHIRTS


Collared Shirt OR FMMA Spirit Shirt

  • Shirt may be solid color or stripes.
  • Shirt may be short or long sleeved.
  • Logo, if present, must be no bigger than a quarter.
  • Shirt must be of appropriate fit (not purposely under- or oversized).
  • FMMA Spirit Shirt can be worn any day of the week instead of a polo shirt.
  • FMMA Spirit Shirt must be bought directly from FMMA.

Solid-Color Jackets, Sweaters, and Sweatshirts WITH Zippers/Buttons

  • All outerwear must be solid color (no designs or writing).
  • Hooded jackets are allowed but the hood may NOT be worn up/on the head.
  • All jackets, sweaters, and sweatshirts must have a full front zipper or full front buttons and be worn OPEN.
  • A uniform shirt (with the collar visible) MUST be worn under any jacket, sweater, or sweatshirt.


SLACKS,

SHORTS,

& SKIRTS


Khaki, Black, or Navy Solid Colored Slacks, Shorts, or Skirts

  • All pants must be worn at the waist at all times.
  • Pant may NOT have any rips or tears.
  • Shorts and skirts must be of fingertip length or longer.
  • Solid colored skirts, skorts, and jumper dresses in khaki, black, or navy are allowed.
  • Tights, leggings, and thermals are not allowed except as worn under skirts.
  • Slacks may not be tucked into socks or shoes.
  • Clothing that exposes body parts or undergarments is prohibited.


FOOTWEAR


Closed-Toe Shoes
