What is the Ripple Explorers program?

Fort Myers Middle Academy was recently awarded a competitive 21st Century grant for an extended learning time enrichment program: Ripple Explorers. In the mornings, students participate in extended art, PE, and health opportunities, and in the afternoons, students participate in project-based learning opportunities to enhance their real-world skills and also receive homework help. The program is completely free to all students and takes place at Fort Myers Middle Academy (3050 Central Ave., Fort Myers, FL, 33901), but there are limited program seats available. How does my child get into this program?

What grade levels are served with this program?
We serve grades 6-8.

When and where does the program take place?
The program will run Monday through Thursday from September 14 to May at Fort Myers Middle Academy, located at 3050 Central Avenue in Fort Myers, FL 33901. In the mornings, students report to the art room at 8:15 a.m. and are released at 9:15 a.m. In the afternoons, students report to the cafeteria at 4:05 p.m. and are dismissed at 5:35 p.m. Transportation will be provided in the afternoon just on Mondays through Thursdays. What activities do the students do in this program?
The program takes place Monday through Thursday, September 14 through May, at Fort Myers Middle Academy. From 8:15-9:15 a.m., students participate in special enrichment activities including art, physical education, and health. From 4:15-5:45, students receive extended learning time to do project-based learning where they develop real-world skills and also receive homework help. How does this work with multiple children in a family?
While this grant-funded program is designed for a specific profile of students, we can work with families to try to accommodate their need.

Is transportation provided?
Buses are available to students for the afternoon sessions Monday through Thursday, but not for the morning sessions. In the afternoons, students bused home will be dropped off at the school closest to their home.

Is there any cost?
No, the program is completely free (courtesy of the 21st Century Learning Grant).

Is there any food for my child during this program?
Students attending the afternoon session will receive free supper (sometimes a hot meal, and sometimes a cold meal). The supper menu operates on a rotating basis (Weeks A, B, C, and D). The menu is available here. Supper is served in the Fort Myers Middle Academy cafeteria.
