Big Brothers Big Sisters Program Takes Off!

15 sixth grade students at FMMA are participants in the Beyond School Walls program run by Big Brothers Big Sisters. Comcast’s Community Impact team sponsors the company’s involvement in the program at 12 Comcast locations across the country, including in Southwest Florida. Each month, the FMMA students take a field trip to meet with their mentors at Comcast.

The Beyond School Walls program brings students facing adversity into the workplace to get a firsthand look at what it’s like to work at a company like Comcast. Comcast employee big brothers or sisters, often simply known as “bigs,” mentor their little brothers or sisters, or “littles,” and teach them about business etiquette and professionalism, plus show them how their education is critical to their future career development and success.

Through a generous donation from Comcast’s customer marketing team, iPads were distributed to all of the 15 Ripples who are part of the program!

Sandi McDonald, Director of Human Resources and a “big” in the Beyond School Walls program couldn’t get over how excited the students were after getting the surprise gifts.

“I was literally walking around all day with a smile on my face,” McDonald said. “It’s going to be a great year!”
